Following
is a partial list of major projects that BSI has undertaken. We believe that this
list clearly illustrates our corporate experience in a wide spectrum of
key areas, including decommissioning, remediation and environmental cleanup.
The projects cited involved various and complex activities that illustrate
our extensive capabilities.

British Nuclear Group Magnox Reactors Decommissioning Project
Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England and Chapelcross, Annan Scotland
Since 2006, Babcock Services, Inc., has
been providing professional consulting and engineering services to British
Nuclear Group (BNG) in support of the decommissioning for two Magnox
reactor facilities located in the UK.
At Berkeley Nuclear License Site (BNLS), BSI's primary task was to
facilitate the de-licensing of the Berkeley Centre nuclear laboratories
and offices, which make up a significant portion of the site. The
de-licensing of a portion of a licensed facility has never taken place in
the UK. BSI was tasked with evaluating the de-licensing procedures
and programs in use at BNLS and make recommendations for process
improvements to survey, design, performance and documentation to support
the de-licensing safety case.
At Chapelcross, BSI provides select professional support
in four major areas on site over the past few years. These areas
include:
End-state management
Radioactive waste disposition
Project management
Project controls

Brookhaven Graphite Research Reactor Decommissioning Project
Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, NY.
Burns and Roe and their subcontractors, WMG, Inc. and Babcock Services,
Inc., were awarded a contract by Brookhaven National Laboratory to develop
two separate engineering studies pertaining to the decommissioning of the
Brookhaven Graphite Research Reactor.
The first study analyzed the long-term
structural stability of the reactor, also called the Graphite Pile, if it
was left alone. The second evaluated potential decommissioning
alternatives that ranged from disassembly and removal of the Pile to total
remediation of the site to a green-field state.

Description:
Connecticut Yankee Decommissioning Project
Haddam Neck Plant, East Hampton, CT
Babcock Services, an integral teaming partner in EHR, was contracted by
Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO) to provide radiological
engineering and expertise in support of the decommissioning of the Haddam
Neck Plant in East Hampton, CT.
BSI personnel assisted in the development
of the self performance baseline schedule and cost estimate. At the
onset of the self performance period, BSI personnel were also selected to
manage the Final Status Survey (FSS) project and provide technical support
for the development and revision of the License Termination Plan (LTP).
This the capacity of Final Status Survey Project Lead, BSI developed a
baseline schedule and bottoms-up cost estimate for completion of the FSS
project.
Project:
Location:
Description:
Remediation
of The Dow Chemical Company's Bay City MI. Facility
TDCC Bay City Michigan Facility
BSI developed the Supplement to the Decommissioning Plan (Supplement)
which contained revised, more effective methods for conducting
radiological surveys and analyzing radiological data. During the
decommissioning, approximately 13,200 tons of excavated contaminated soils
were stockpiled and shipped for disposal. During this period, BSI
was responsible for the implementation of the decommissioning plan,
including the management and application of all operational radiological
control and surveys as well as the interface with regulatory agencies on
behalf of TDCC. At the client's request, BSI provided an on-site
staff of radiation protection professionals including the Radiation Safety
Officer, a Certified Health Physicist, a Field Radiological Controls
Supervisor and ANSI 3.1 qualified Radiological Controls Technicians.
Project:
Location:
Description:
Radiological Characterization and Final Status Survey; Radiological Survey
and Decontamination of Embedded & Buried Piping Systems
NASA Plum Brook Status, Sandusky, OH
BSI developed a comprehensive MARSSIM based FSS Plan for PBRF
incorporating site-specific DCLs, radionuclide distributions, initial ara
classifications, data quality assurance and protocols for area survey and
data validation along with field implementation procedures with an
aggressive schedule and a challenging review process. This plan was
by the USNRC.

Location:
Description:
Brookhaven National Laboratory Graphite Research Reactor Engineering Study
Brookhaven Graphite Research Reactor, Upton NY
BSI assisted Burns & Roe and BGRR with radiological input pertaining to
the different decommissioning scenarios for the BGRR facility. These tasks
include the performance of a Historical Site Assessment, determination of
site release criteria, provide input to current continued Characterization
effort, support integrated site de-construction walk-downs methods and
sequence planning, evaluate final status survey approach and scope,
estimate plan associated costs, support accident risk assessment and
support final report generation.
